Rural Transportation Options
If you are a senior citizen or an adult living with a physical disability in rural Ottawa, there are many options available to help you travel to, from, or within your community.
Rural Community Support Services (CSS)
Our agencies are partnering together to provide enhanced transportation options:
- Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre
- Rural Ottawa South Support Services
- Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre
Seniors and adults with a physical disability, who do not require a wheelchair, can get rides to scheduled appointments via CSS passenger vans with paid drivers or volunteers using their own vehicle. Travel is available to locations within the City and nearby communities.
If needed, escort support can be provided for persons requiring assistance with stairs or elevators at their destination, or to stay with you during your scheduled appointment or community visit.
Reservations can be made in advance and customers are asked to pay parking and mileage costs. Financial assistance is available for those who require it.
Rural to Rural Wheelchair Accessible Transportation
Beginning July 1 through December 31, 2013, the CSS agencies are piloting a program that will provide wheelchair accessible transportation services to customers who require transportation within the rural areas of Ottawa or to neighbouring rural communities.
Reservations can be made at least 48 hours in advance with a CSS agency, and on your behalf, the agency will make arrangements with West-Way Taxi to provide the accessible taxi ride. Customers who use this service are required to pay CSS transportation mileage fees.
Contact each agency directly to arrange transportation or discuss availability of financial assistance:
