Boarding and Exiting

  • Plan your route ahead of time.
  • Have your fare ready.
  • Never run for a bus or train. If an operator sees you and can stop safely, they will do so.
  • boarding or existing busNever walk directly in front of or behind a bus — the operator and other drivers may not see you.
  • If you pay with cash, bus tickets, O-Train ticket or top up a pass, you need to board by the front door and the operator will give you a transfer as your Proof of Payment (POP) receipt, which you would keep for the duration of your trip. Pass holders who don’t need a POP receipt may board articulated buses by the rear doors.
  • Watch your step getting on and off the bus and use the grab rails. In slippery winter conditions, be extra careful getting on and off the bus.
  • Be sure that backpacks, bags, purse straps or coats don’t get caught in the doors as you get on or off the bus or train.
  • Take extra care when travelling with young children — hold their hand when boarding and exiting.
  • Wait until the vehicle comes to a full stop and let other passengers exit before you board.
  • Never pry open or attempt to hold open the doors with your arm, leg or any object.
  • O-Train doors cannot open once the light on the door button is off.
  • Get off at the next one if you see a suspicious person at your stop.
  • After 9 p.m. use the Night Stop program.
